Induction Agents

Overview of Agents Used in Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)

Induction agents are a critical component of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI), as they facilitate unconsciousness and amnesia while minimizing patient distress and physiological responses to airway manipulation. These agents are administered with a neuromuscular blocking agent to ensure a smooth and rapid intubation. We cover some of the most commonly used agents here.

Ketamine

Ketamine is a versatile agent with countless applications, including pain management, procedural sedation, tranquilization of aggressive patients, treatment-resistant depression, and, of course, induction and anesthesia. While its popularity is variable and largely setting-dependent, several unique properties of Ketamine make it an irreplaceable tool for airway management.
