TOOLS OF THE TRADE – REVIEW
The AMBU aScope is a single-use, flexible bronchoscopy device that can be used for difficult emergency airway cases, In the emergency setting the primary use of this device would be for a predicted anatomically difficult airway (in a patient who is not a crash airway) who gives you time to perform FOI, and in a physiologically difficult airway, like a patient in septic shock, in which a hemodynamically neutral intubation is desired. This is the “awake” intubation scenario. It can be performed with video laryngoscopy, but in many cases fiberoptic intubation (FOI) is the preferred method.
