WELCOME
Welcome to the PAC team! All of you are here because of your personal commitment to medical education. We are so grateful to you for joining us and helping to make this upcoming PAC event what it is. We could not do this without you. 🙏 ❤️
We have worked hard not only to make this a great experience for learners but also for you our volunteers. As a volunteer you will be side by side with our learners and our faculty, have the opportunity to explore some of the installations for yourself.
If you’re interested in a career in medicine, feel free to use us as mentors and put us on your CV and application as “medical education technicians”for the day, learning how great medical education gets created.
This document is intended to give you a brief overview of the format, basic essential information (like where and when to be come) and what to expect for the day.

pac explained
We are more than an airway course. Our work seeks to transform how we learn in medical education by developing the next generation teaching styles that meet learners where they live, and provides a more accessible, more engaging, effective, and inspiring learning experience.
We do this through partnerships with experts in medical education across all disciplines, and design experts outside of the traditional boundaries of medicine like the School of Visual Arts Design for Social Innovation, Cornell Tech and other artists here in NYC. Our work applies design thinking to the complex problems of learning in today’s healthcare environment, and explores the boundaries between digital and in physical, remote and in person learning.
At PAC, our creators have designed a series of uniquely immersive, interactive, and self-directed learning experiences that strengthen airway knowledge by addressing all the elements required for clinical mastery. Foundational knowledge, critical concepts, procedures, planning and logistics, teamwork, human factors and personal experience are all integrated seamlessly with expert coaching and high fidelity simulations into a unified learning experience that provides learners with a powerful opportunity to improve their airway management skills.
the digital space
The backbone of the system is our innovative new website that allows for simultaneous interactive learning across every space, and every theme based topic in the PAC universe throughout the entire day of an event and beyond. The website helps us to create a truly immersive, interactive and self-directed learning experience unheard of before in medical education.
the physical space
We do all of this by designing the website to work seamlessly with our graphically designed posters and embedded QR codes that connect the digital content to the physical space. Put together in series within the physical space learners are exposed to big picture ideas, core concepts, personal experiences, and procedural skills with audio and video tools that provide guided hands on practice opportunities with the equipment provided in each installation.
As a volunteer you will be helping to keep these spaces organized and flowing smoothly
Expert Coaching

Because learners are able to direct their own learning, faculty are also free from having to teach in a one size fits all format.
As a volunteer you will be helping to ensure that faculty have everything they need to teach and helping to keep all the self-directed stations organized.
The SIMulation Challenges
Simulation challenges are designed to bring together all the core concepts and skills within the self-directed and coaching portions of the installation. They run simultaneously with the installations on a set schedule.
As a volunteer you will be helping to set up and prepare the simulation rooms for learners between sessions.
how to be a volunteer
We’ve tried to make it a stress free and as fun as possible for volunteers. Our experience is that the day is full of great energy and learning so here is what you can do to get ready. It should require minimal time. 👇
Volunteer Roles
Here are some of things you will be doing as a volunteer:
- Assist with Preparation & Set-Up
- Help production team with logistics
- Assist with Registration
- Supervise flow and organization of active learning spaces
- Help faculty at individual coaching stations
- Help SIM teams with preparation and set-up before and after each session
- Help with break down at end of day

FAQs
- When is it?
- Saturday, May 14th, 2022
- Where is it?
- At Cornell Medical College at 1305 York Ave.. The entrance is on 69th street. Then follow the signs up to the second floor of the medical school and check in.
- Our volunteers will help get you situated.
- What time should you be there?
- 6 am. We try not to make it too early, but there is preparation involved and a pre-brief before we the teaching starts at 9:00 am.
- Are there food drinks provided?
- Yes!! We will have food, snacks and hydration available for all.
- Is there a set schedule for each learning space?
- Actually no! The doors open for learners at 9am and stay open all day for them to explore until 4pm. Learners can take breaks whenever they want, come back to you multiple times if they need to, or skip a learning space entirely based on their level of training.
- Will there be breaks?
- Yes!. There is plenty of time to take a break. The installations are open throughout the day from 9am – 4pm and each has plenty of self-exploration content that does not require you to be there all the time. We have also divided up the coverage so that there are opportunities for you to explore and have fun too.
- What should I bring?
- Please bring your mobile device and headphones and a charger. We will be communicating via WhatsApp to everyone throughout the day and if you want to explore the installations you will need a mobile phone and headphones
