An interactive experience to help you manage the unexpected cardiac arrest during a virtual visit.

Jess Boyle – Teaches V-CPR
Welcome
Let’s get started
INTRODUCTION
What do you do when a typical day becomes a bad day? Every emergency dispatch center in the nation has a plan for handling the 911 cardiac arrest call and providing instructions via 911 dispatc until help arrives. A good outcome in cardiac arrest depends on early CPR and the chain of survival.
With an increase in the use of telemedicine, particularly in the age of COVID19, it means that providers are more likely to play an important role in that chain of survival. Patients may now decide to reach for a virtual visit with you when they should be calling 911. In order to be prepared there are a specific set of clinical skills that we will teach you here. Here is what we will be doing in this session:
SESSION OUTLINE
- Listen to the personal experience of one of our clinicians who had to perform V-CPR.
- Listen to one of our experts from our EMS dispatch service on how they do it.
- A walk through all the core concepts and skills for providing V-CPR.
- An opportunity to master V-CPR skills in our virtual training lab.
- Run through a realistic V-CPR simulation for you to test your new skills.
- Give you a bundle of rapid resources you can use for your next shift..
1. A TYPICAL DAY – ONE PROVIDER’S EXPERIENCE
It was a typical day seeing patients via telehealth when an unexpected call came in. The patient immediately appeared unwell. Pale, sweaty short of breath, and barely able to speak, Suddenly they became unresponsive. Here is the rest of the story in the provider’s own words.
2. AN EXPERT PERSPECTIVE – HOW 911 DISPATCH GETS IT RIGHT
Dealing with an unexpected critically ill patient during a telehealth visit requires its own set of unique clinical skills. For many, providing CPR is an unfamiliar experience, now add on the challenges of working in the virtual space. You and your team need to be prepared to perform virtual CPR (V-CPR) in this new environment. Once virtual care becomes part of your practice, it’s no longer a matter of if a patient you are seeing will collapse in front of you but when.
- V-CPR instruction should be a standard of care for all virtual care providers.
- V-CPR requires training, and continuous quality improvement.
- V-CPR saves lives. (Not being prepared results in preventable deaths)
3. WALK THROUGH THE STEPS OF V-CPR
